Local officials announce reopening of some county offices

Owen County Facilities Manager Jason Wainscott installs protective shields inside the Owen County Sheriff's Office.

As part of Gov. Andy Beshear's "Healthy at Work" initiative, Owen County Judge-Executive Casey Ellis and Owenton Mayor Adam Gaines announced today the scheduled reopening of several local government offices.

Beginning at 8 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2020, the following offices will reopen with strict social- distancing guidelines in place:

  • Owen County Judge-Executive

  • Owen County Sheriff

  • Owen County PVA

  • Owen County Attorney

  • Owenton City Hall

For your convenience and in an attempt to limit the number of people entering the above facilities, constituents are urged to call before making the trip. In most cases, constituents' needs can be handled over the phone. Appointments will be scheduled for business that requires in-person contact.

To ensure the safety and protection of both employees and constituents, protective shields have been installed in all of the above-mentioned county offices. A sliding window is in place at Owenton City Hall. However, anyone entering city hall will be required to wear a mask. Masks will not be required to enter county offices but are strongly encouraged.

Constituents conducting in-person business are asked to pay close attention to the signage in place that will direct the flow of foot traffic in each office and stay at least six feet from other people. Common waiting areas in each office have been eliminated to limit gathering of any kind.

The Owen County Clerk's Office will remain closed to in-person traffic as it awaits additional guidance from the Kentucky Secretary of State regarding the June 23 primary election. Those in need of services provided by the clerk's office may utilize the drop-box located outside the office door. Mailing items is also an option. If you have questions, you are encouraged to call the clerk’s office at 502-484-2213.

This information does not pertain to the Owen County Circuit Clerk’s Office, which will follow guidance issued by the Kentucky Supreme Court. For more information, please feel free to contact the following offices:
