The Owen County Public Works Division is comprised of the County Road Department, Fleet Services Department, Solid Waste and Recycling Department.

  • The Road Department is responsible for the maintenance of over 250 miles of public roadways, streets, and infrastructure. This includes asphalt and concrete repair and maintenance, bridge maintenance and construction, replacing traffic signs, maintaining storm drains, cleaning and maintaining retention basins, and constructing concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and cross gutters. During emergencies, the Road Department responds by providing traffic safety barricades and other warnings during flooding or other unusual conditions and corrects any unsafe road conditions that may exist.

  • The Fleet Maintenance Department is responsible for the maintenance and operation of more than 60-plus vehicles and pieces of equipment in the county’s inventory that includes Public Transit, Sheriff and EMS vehicles, heavy equipment, and light trucks.

  • The Solid Waste Department operates the county solid waste transfer station, which services both residential and commercial customers for the collection of residential and commercial solid waste and recyclable material in the county. All items accumulated at the Transfer Station are moved to other locations such as the materials recycling facility, a local landfill, or a licensed hazardous waste disposal facility.
