Big Twin Creek Road bridge to close for replacement

Jan. 25, 2022 — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 announced today plans to replace the Big Twin Creek Road bridge through the Bridging Kentucky program.

Beginning Jan. 31, 2022, the Big Twin Creek Road bridge will be closed to traffic for 60 days. Motorists will be encouraged to use the signed detour: Cull Road to KY 227 to KY 325 to Ball Ridge.

Completion of the project is scheduled for April 2022.

"As the bridge has deteriorated significantly in recent years, the need to secure funding became a top priority," said Owen County Judge/Executive Casey Ellis. "I am thankful for the Bridging Kentucky program and its priority on our failing infrastructure. Unfortunately, like all KYTC programs, there isn't enough money available to address all needs in a timely manner.

Initially, the Big Twin Creek Road bridge was at the bottom of Bridging Kentucky's funding list. With recent inspections highlighting the structural failures and therefore lowering the weight limit, priority was given to expedite funding.

M & M Services is the contractor for the project with a low bid of $279,784.64.
